The APECS Project Group "Remote Sensing Database" is launching its survey "Knowledge, needs and expectations of ECRs in Polar Remote Sensing" in order to create a free online resource to navigate the world of remote sensing and compare and find the best tools for polar research. All students, PhD candidates and researchers (up to 8 years after obtaining their PhD) studying the Arctic, Antarctic and/or the Alpine regions are invited to complete this survey.
Workshop 1 May as part of the 28th International Polar Conference
Under the motto "the bumpy road of publishing scientific papers" you will lean about publishing peer reviewed articles and, most importantly, have the opportunity to ask questions and exchange thoughts. What is the publication process like from the editors' point of view? What are typical problems? Why is an article rejected? To answer such questions we have invited two experienced editors.
The annual "Poolsymposium" brings together polar scientists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, artists and other stakeholders with polar activities. DAC (Dutch Arctic Circle), APECS-NL (Association of Polar Early Career Scientists) and NWO (Dutch Research Council) jointly organize this polar day full of activities around various themes.

Communication is becoming increasingly important in the scientific world, whether in the context of project deliverables or to inform the general public of current scientific challenges and breakthroughs. We always say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so why not convey your current polar research issues through your most beautiful expedition photographs?
This year, APECS Belgium teams up with the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences and the International Polar Foundation for the Museums Nocturnes of Brussels. We are organizing a polar photography exhibition at the Natural Sciences Museum between the 19th and the 22nd of May.
With great pleasure, the APECS Arts Project Group invites the public to an online tour of the Active Witnesses exhibition, an introduction to the project concept, and a Q&A session about socially engaged art in the Arctic and Lapland, specifically. The session will be held by the exhibition curator Raphael Vega. Please register here and join us on April 22 at 12 pm GMT.
The EU project Arctic PASSION plans activities for early career scientists and Arctic and Indigenous youth to exchange knowledge, experiences and learnings multilaterally and also to promote the next generation in the use of Arctic observing systems. But most importantly, it is learning from you! With combined capacities, visions and ideas we can improve relevant Arctic observations together in order to better understand Arctic environmental change, and to adapt technologies and data acquisition for societal needs.
The votes on our March 2022 Polar Week Photo Competition are in. More than 200 people voted on the 16 amazing submissions on Arctic, Antarctic and Alpine photographs. A big thank you to all the people who submitted a picture and another thank you to everyone who voted and made this photo competition happen.

The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) is a non-partisan, non-governmental organization that does not usually take a stance on current political events, but firmly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Both countries contribute to polar research, which requires international collaboration — the foundation of APECS.

Alpine Cryosphere is a project group that represents an increasing number of APECS members working in the mid-latitude and high-altitude environments. We have the aim to connect, gain perspectives from the community, and improve APECS’ resources for non-polar researchers.
In 2021, Alpine Cryosphere created the first Alpine Cryosphere Newsletter. Right now we are looking for contributions for the upcoming edition of the APECS Alpine Cryosphere Newsletter.
