Association of Polar Early Career Scientists

Adrian DahoodDr. Adrian Dahood-Fritz was a dedicated member of the APECS community, serving three years on the APECS Council before her life was tragically cut short. She had many friends, mentors, and mentees throughout APECS, and was generous with sharing her expertise.

In addition to being an incredibly accomplished researcher, Adrian contributed to the organization of several APECS workshops, including at the Marine Ecosystem Assessment for the Southern Ocean (MEASO) and Integrated Marine Biosphere Research (IMBeR) conferences, as well as supporting the annual APECS Online Conference. She drew on her extensive experience in the policy world to create new online resources geared at capacity building for fellow early career researchers (ECR) who were considering a non-academic career path, and played a prominent role in improving the involvement of early career researchers in the review of reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Given her commitment to APECS, a Memorial Fund for Adrian has been established to which anyone can donate in her memory. All donations to the fund will go towards travel support for early career researchers attending international conferences. The donations would therefore facilitate the integration of ECRs into the polar science community as well as the dissemination of their research.
