Do you want to contribute to APECS and join our Council? Applications for Project Group Leader positions and nominations for National Committee/partner organization representatives are now open! The deadline for Project Group Leader applications and National Committee/partner organization representative nominations is 25 July 2022 at 23:59 GMT

We would also like to remind you that applications for Council Leadership positions (Council Co-Chairs, National Committee Coordinators, Social Media Coordinators, & APECS Representative Coordinator) are closing Monday 4 July at 23:59 GMT.

The 2022-2023 Council term is from 1 October 2022 through 30 September 2023. Being involved in the APECS Council provides you with opportunities to engage internationally and across disciplines with other early career researchers and professionals who are interested in polar regions and the cryosphere. You should be prepared to spend a few hours per week, on average, on APECS related activities.

APECS Project Group Leader positions
No prior experience with APECS, or the subject of the Project Group you’d like to lead, is necessary to join the Council - we encourage all APECS members to consider applying! A list of the 2021-2022 term Project Groups can be found on the APECS website, and the anticipated Project Groups for next term are listed in the application form. You are also welcome to suggest new Project Groups that you would be willing to lead beyond those that are listed! By leading a Project Group on the Council, you develop valuable skills in project management, leadership and communication in a friendly and supportive environment. As a Project Group Leader 2022-2023 you would need to be available the last two weeks of September to review member applications for your Project Group. If you are just interested in participating, not leading a Project Group, a call to join Project Groups will be announced to the APECS membership in late August.

Nominations for National Committee and Partner Organization Representatives
APECS National Committee (NC) representatives are nominated by their NC leadership and are approved by the APECS Executive Committee. NC representatives are the point of contact between their NC and the APECS International Directorate. NC representatives should actively contribute to organizing activities and events within their NCs, and are also welcome to collaborate with or contribute to Project Groups.

If you are nominated by an APECS National Committee or partner organization to represent them on the APECS Council, please fill out this nomination form by 25 July 2022 at 23:59 GMT. We understand that the APECS term does not align with the operations of all NCs and partner organizations. Nominating a representative by this deadline ensures that the representative will be smoothly integrated into the full term. However, it is also possible for NCs and partner organizations to nominate representatives mid-term.

The chair of your National Committee/partner organization must email info*at*apecs.is to confirm that you will be their representative and that there will be regular communication between the nominated representative and the NC/partner organization.

In order to have an efficient and manageable APECS Council size, please note the following restrictions:

  • National Committees can nominate maximum 2 representatives
  • Partner Organizations can nominate 1 representative
