Association of Polar Early Career Scientists

apecs_ukraine_colors.jpgFollowing the shocking events of the spring and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, APECS thought it was important to issue a statement.

The following events showed strong international support for Ukraine, and APECS is open to support these initiatives and will push for more help for Early Career Scientists in difficult situations, like those exiled from their homes.

We believe that academic research is a topic where sanctions should be avoided, and regret the growing gap between researchers in the “West” and the “East”. We wanted APECS to be vocal about these topics and the current Executive Committee and Executive Director were able to publish the following correspondence in Nature about this topic. This effort is not the only one, and a team including former APECS Executive Director Jenny Basemann also published a correspondence in opposition to academic sanctions against Russian scientists.

We are happy to support any initiative that can mitigate the hardship upon Early Career Scientists across the world, and if you have suggestions, do not hesitate to contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
