Recently, she was Executive Director of APECS until the Directorate moved to its current host institutions in Tromsø, Norway. Now she continues supporting the APECS Project Office at the Alfred Wegener Institute AWI) in Potsdam, Germany, by coordinating remaining EU projects with APECS involvement.
Josefine has pursued a PhD in geology at AWI and the University of Potsdam, Germany, and continued with a postdoc at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and AWI to research thaw lakes dynamics in Arctic Alaska. During her scientific career, she has been involved in international & national executive bodies such as PYRN, IASC and GTN-P. Josefine was founding member of APECS Germany (chair 2018/19) and a member of the APECS Executive Committee 2016/2017. In parallel, Josefine engaged in science communication and outreach herself, e.g. with the Dahrendorf Award to develop permafrost outreach in the national project "Permafrost im Wandel" which received the science communication award WIS PoP, as well as in permafrost citizen science in the frame of the BMBF project "UndercoverEisAgenten" (2021-2024).
