Association of Polar Early Career Scientists

 
The Swedish Polar Research Secretariat, the University of Gothenburg, the British Antarctic Survey and the NERC Arctic Office jointly invite early career researchers (ECRs) affiliated with universities and research centres in Greenland, Sweden, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and the United Kingdom to apply for a ship-based training programme this summer.

The programme will be part of a nine-day science cruise to central-east Greenland, starting and ending in Reykjavik in August 2025 and is aimed at Master’s students, PhD students, and early career postdocs without established marine research positions or who are not part of established marine research teams. The vessel will be the R/V Skagerak, operated by the University of Gothenburg. There are five berths available within the programme for early career researchers.

Important Dates:
  • 11 August 2025: Vessel mobilisation in Reykjavik
  • 13–15 August: Transit over Denmark Strait, conducting survey work
  • 15–17 August: Mooring recovery and re-deployment, along with additional data collection and sampling in the wider fjord system
  • 17–19 August: Return to Reykjavik, conducting survey work
  • 19 August 2025: Vessel de-mobilisation in Reykjavik
