The aim of the conference is to bring together experts and practitioners to share experiences, new findings and best practices for safety in the Arctic. The conference is to take place in Longyearbyen in May 13-15, 2019.
The Arctic Safety Centre is a hub for sharing knowledge regarding personnel safety related to natural hazards (climate, topography, and wildlife) in the Arctic. Safe operations in the Arctic require safety knowledge and skills in both planning and execution, increasingly important due to climate changes and an increased focus toward the high north within tourism, transportation and industry.
We welcome both practical experiences and research contributions on Arctic safety from industry, public sector and research institutions.
Within an Arctic context (harsh environments, remote areas, lack of infrastructure), we welcome papers and/or presentations on the following topics:
- Climate change and impact on safety
- Human factors in harsh environments
- Operational safety for human and industrial activities from fjords and ice to land, glaciers, and mountains
- Preparing for and responding to crises
- Learning from unwanted occurrences and successful operations
- Methods, tools and data for safety management
- Living with natural hazards – building resilience in Arctic communities
- Industrial safety
- New technologies: limitations and opportunities in safety work
Deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 February 2019.
