Association of Polar Early Career Scientists

The Atmosphere, Marine, and Terrestrial Working Group Secretaries are unfortunately schedued to finish their term at ASSW2019.

We are now soliciting applications to be the next Atmosphere, Marine, and Terrestrial Working Group Secretaries – and we need your help in recommending good candidates. Read on and please send the information below to anybody you think would make a strong contribution to the IASC Working Groups.

We want to try something a little different this time around. Being an IASC Working Group Secretary provides a unique experience to support and gain insight into international and interdisciplinary science cooperation, as well as a leg up in building an inernational Arctic research network. We hope that applicants will see this as a unique professional development opportunity.

Duties for the Working Group Secretary include preparation and secretarial support for the WG meetings but also the communication with the WG and the central Secretariat during the year. In terms of time, the commitment averages a couple hours per week, more time during the preparation of the ASSW but less time, for example, during the summer. Seen as professional development, the WG Secretary is an unfortunately an unpaid position (although we expect a candidate‘s supervisor to support their participation in this role). However, IASC will pay for travel costs to attend WG meetings at ASSW or if necessary in conjunction with other meetings. IASC also covers the costs for WG conference calls and other collaboration tools.

IASC Secretaries are required to have strong English-language skills and basic technical proficiency. A WG Secretary is expected to serve for at least two years, but are encouraged to stay on for longer given successful performance.

An application consists of a CV and a short statement of interest sent to IASC Executive Secretary Allen Pope (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) before 13 January 2019.
