APECS and the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) are seeking up to three Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to join the International Scientific Organising Committee (ISOC) for the SCAR Open Science Conference (OSC) 2026 in Oslo, Norway, from 10 - 14 August 2026.
Why should you join the ISOC?
The ISOC plays a key role in shaping the scientific programme of the OSC, ensuring it reflects the latest research and advances in Antarctic and Southern Ocean sciences. As a committee member, you will contribute to:
- Develop the scientific programme, including reviewing and finalising parallel session topics.
- Select and assign session convenors, as well as advice on the conference schedule.
- Advice on identifying keynote speakers and mini-symposia topics to showcase the breath of Antarctic research.
- Provide input on mentorship initiatives, social events, and EDI & sustainability principles for the conference.
Time commitment and timeline
The commitment is fairly low, with increased involvement during key periods, such as reviewing session proposals and finalising the scientific programme.
Draft timeline:
- April/May 2025: Drafting the list of parallel sessions and opening the call for session proposals
- August 2025: Finalising the parallel session list, plenary topics, and mini symposia
- September 2025: Assigning chairs to parallel sessions
- February/March 2026: Adjusting parallel sessions based on abstract submissions
- May 2026: Finalising the programme with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and SCAR Secretariat
- August 2026: SCAR Open Science Conference
