APECS co-chaired a session with SIOS-KC and AWI at the Arctic Safety Conference in Svalbard concerning the safety of women in polar fieldwork. The session was very well received – several working groups have reached out to get resources and training on how best to make fieldwork a safe space for everyone. The discussion highlighted the fact that it is not only women, but many minority groups who are affected by ill-fitting field equipment, various bathroom needs, social pressures, and attitudes in field research. We are very excited to co-convene another session at ASSW 2022, and will soon be putting out a call for abstracts.
