We would like to announce the inaugural call for applications for grants from the Adrian Dahood-Fritz Memorial Fund.
Dr. Adrian Dahood-Fritz was a dedicated member of the APECS community, serving three years on the APECS Council before her life was tragically cut short. A fund was created in her memory in order to support the integration of early career researchers (ECRs) into the polar science community - more information can be found on our website.
The fund was initially created to support polar ECR attendance at conferences through travel grants, but given the Covid-19 pandemic, most conferences have been postponed, cancelled, or moved online. For this reason, we’ve reimagined the fund for the “new normal” in which we find ourselves. Instead of offering only travel grants, we are offering grants to support ECRs in three ways:
- To pay the registration fee for online conferences (up to 500 €)
- To pay for expenses related to in-person conferences where possible (up to 1000 €)
- To pay for small research grants (up to 1000 €)
In this inaugural call, all current funds available in the fund will be distributed. A future call in subsequent years will be organized based on the receipt of future donations.
To receive support to pay for conference-related expenses (options 1 or 2), applicants should expect to present a minimum of one abstract at the conference they wish to attend.
All grant recipients will be asked to prepare a short report on how participation in the conference that they were funded for was important to them for their career. The submission of a short report also applies to recipients of small research grants or project addendums that were funded through this funding scheme.
To apply, please fill out the following application form.
The application deadline is Tuesday, 25 May 2021 23:59 GMT.
