The Inuit Cohort: A Community of Research Practice Across Canada
  • General public
Changes in the environment and traditional lifestyles have resulted in new health and well-being issues for Inuit communities. This project will help build Inuit research capacity by expanding on the successful 2008 Winter Institute, hosted by the Nasivvik Centre for Inuit Health and Changing Environments at the Universit Laval and Health Canada. By establishing an online graduate studies program tailored to Inuit communities and their specialized research objectives, this project hopes to produce a new cohort of Inuit researchers. Participants will develop research proposals relevant to their communities. Traditional knowledge research is particularly encouraged as a means to help address current community problems. In 2009 and 2010, IPY funding will support the travel of Inuit participants nominated by regional governments and Inuit organizations to attend health research sessions, providing training and new research and graduate training opportunities.
