In the past, the cost and difficulty associated with traveling in Nunavik have been barriers to recording Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK). Luckily, this obstacle has been overcome by the creation of The Northern Village Data Collection System which allows investigators to conduct interviews online using a standard internet connection. This technology eliminates travel costs and post interview digitizing. The objective of this initiative is to undertake research on existing and new species in Nunavik. 122 information sheets have been created on relevant species ? birds, fish, land mammals, shellfish, terrestrial and marine plants. These information sheets will assist with species identification during TEK interviews. This project also aims to train community member on how to interview and record TEK using the data collection system. The Northern Village Data Collection System will allow users to record their observations of plants and animals and improve data management in the region.
