Polar Outreach Catalogue

This project is creating an IPY time capsule to capture the perspectives of Northern Canadian youth today and demonstrate the importance of the polar region to all Canadians. The time capsule includes photographs, artwork, videos, and poems, as well as youth run surveys that have recorded the social and physical dimensions of life in the Arctic. Although the project focuses on northern youth, photographs from a national photo contest will ensure that a broader Canadian youth perspective of the poles is represented in the time capsule. The materials will first be displayed at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and could be made available to tour to other locations. After exhibiting the materials, the time capsule will be sealed and stored at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre until it is re-opened during the next IPY in another 50 years.
