  • Students - in general
Where are the Dene children's songs? Has the impact of tuberculosis and residential schools changed the musical culture and legacy of the Dene peoples of the Northwest Territories, Canada? This work explores traditional Dene songs, changes in governance and its impacts on cultural legacy. It describes the Dene peoples, tells the extraordinary story of the first audio recording device to enter the Canadian Polar Circle and introduces some musical transcriptions of traditional Dene songs delivered to the Fort Good Hope Elder Council, to the Yellowknife Education District School Board and to the Northwest Territories Ministry of Education in order to incorporate polar science into formal elementary and secondary education settings.
