NAGT Early Career Workshop for Geoscience Faculty, June 20-24

Join us for a multi-day workshop to participate in sessions and activities about effective teaching strategies, course design, establishing a research program in a new setting, working with research students, balancing professional and personal responsibilities, and time management. The workshop is a great way to connect with other early-career geoscience faculty and includes an optional virtual visit to NSF to learn about funding opportunities and meet with program officers.

The Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) project of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) announces an open call for CliC Fellowships & Grants 2021.

Goal: The goal of CliC fellowships and grants is to increase the engagement of Early Career Scientists in CliC activities and to promote participation of scientists from regions currently underrepresented in CliC, i.e., South America, Asia and Africa.

Workshop – Co-production of knowledge - Swiss Polar Institute

This workshop will be dedicated to Polar Access Fund grantees and other early-career researchers about the co-production of knowledge. We will discuss best practices and practical tips for scientists from all disciplines wishing to share and integrate knowledge or co-design methodologies with local/indigenous communities.

The event will be held on Tuesday 25 January 2022, 14:00-15:30 on Zoom.

A reminder of the upcoming application deadline for the Sixth International Summer School in Glaciology organized by the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF)/Oslo University, which hopefully can be held in person in McCarthy, central Alaska, from 7 to 17 June 2022.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: U.S. Representatives to SCAR (deadline 24 January)

The Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research (SCAR) is an international scientific organization that promotes and facilitates cooperation in Antarctic research and provides science advice to the Antarctic Treaty System.  The Polar Research Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine selects U.S. representatives to SCAR—including a Lead and Alternate Delegate, and members of the three Science Groups (Geosciences, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences). Current representatives are listed on the U.S. SCAR website.

New Arctic Research Plan 2022-2026

IARPC LogoThe U.S. Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee has released the new Arctic Research Plan 2022–2026. Building on the successes and communities of practice of the 2017–2021 plan, the new Arctic Research Plan is a bold strategy for a changing Arctic. It outlines a vision for federal agencies to address emerging research questions about this vital region, and provides pathways to strengthen relationships between federal agencies and Indigenous communities, academia and non-federal researchers, the state of Alaska, nonprofits, and private sector and international organizations.

"Enhancing International Scientific Cooperation: Arctic Science and Technology Advice with Ministries"

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Program on Negotiation (PON) at Harvard Law School and Polar Cooperation Research Center at Kobe University will collaborate on a project supported by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Consulate-General of Japan in Boston on Enhancing International Scientific Cooperation: Arctic Science and Technology Advice with Ministries.
