Do you want to share your polar fieldwork experience with fellow early career researchers? Are you currently preparing to conduct polar fieldwork for the first time? Apply now to join APECS in developing training material for users of polar research infrastructure!

As part of the POLARIN project, APECS is inviting early career researchers to contribute to the development of training material (e.g. guidebooks, knowledge articles or visual summaries) on the usage of polar research infrastructures. We envision participating individuals to dedicate 40-60 hours in total, distributed from February to August 2025. You will be working collaboratively in groups with other early career researchers, coordinated by the POLARIN work package team, to shape the scope of the resources and create training content that will be published and openly accessible through an online training platform, hosted by APECS. Your contribution as authors will be publicly acknowledged.

On 2 and 3 December, a workshop was held at UiT The Arctic University of Norway that brought together members of Norway’s Arctic research community to coordinate efforts for the Fourth International Conference on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP IV) and to discuss priorities towards the next International Polar Year (IPY) in 2032-2033. APECS International Directorate staff members Sarah Strand and Axel Schlindwein participated in the workshop and stressed the importance of involving early career indviduals in large-scale planning processes like ICARP IV and the IPY. 

APECS Netherlands and the UK Polar Network are collaborating on a project to collate stories from the poles and are calling for Polar Early Career Researchers (ECR) willing to share their tales from the polar regions. 

The APECS International Directorate will be closed Monday 16 December through Friday 10 January due to winter holidays of its staff members. 

Join APECS Canada and Arctic Science for a training session on how to peer review and other best practices related to publishing. The team will walk you through the process and discuss scenarios you may encounter as an author or a peer reviewer.

Are you an early career polar researcher going to the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting? Join other Arctic, Antarctic and high alpine researchers at a social co-hosted by PSECCO, PolarImpact and the United States Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (USAPECS) on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 6 - 7pm ET. The event will feature a short introduction to each of these organizations and how you can get involved with them or be supported by them, and will offer a fun opportunity to network with other polar researchers at AGU!

Antarctica Day is celebrated annually on 1 December, honoring of the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in 1959. In the past 24th of October, the XV APCES Portugal Workshop was held at historical village of Almeida, as part of the organisation of University of Beira Interior, under the theme "The Polar Express to Success: Enhancing ECR´s Writing Skills", together with the Portuguese Polar Conference on the 25th of October.
