Subsequently to the International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences (ICASS) ICASS IX conference, June 14, a PhD course in "Community based methods for sustainable development in the north" will be held at Umeå University.

In this PhD course we would like to present, discuss and practice research methodologies, which are being used around the arctic and to co construct in a participatory approach the future scenarios of tomorrow research.
GOAL: After the course participants shall be able to:
1. Describe and discuss IASSA guidelines for all researchers working in the North from an indigenous research methodology and research ethics perspective.
2. Discuss how to address community concerns and gather data that will inform decision making and help better prepare their future.
3. Discuss how to engage indigenous people in the research processes much further.
4. Use the CBPR tool kit to build up and strengthen a research capacity among the arctic communities in collaboration with the Regional Governments and the Research Centers.
