Polar and Alpine Events Calendar
To Friday 17 September 2021
The annual international user meeting for the ice-flow model Úa will this year be held at Northumbria University, Newcastle, from 13-17 September, 2021.
The meeting will be held online (using Teams). There is no course fee, and registration simply involves sending me (Hilmar) an email to get be included in the Teams meeting invites. The meeting is suitable for both new and experienced users.
The schedule will be based on UK local time. Video recordings and pre-recorded instruction videos will be made available to all participants. It should therefore be possible for those on different time zones to participate without attending all the sessions in real time.
Úa is a finite-element ice-flow model. It is easy to use, robust, and an ideal tool to solve flow of ice sheets, ice shelves and alpine glaciers, and for ice-flow problems involving grounding line migration (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO8NHJqmgg_bwJx0xKJDwcA). To run the model a local MATLAB installation is required.
As in previous years, there will be an introduction to the use of model and presentations by current users in the mornings. The afternoons can be used to set up and run models, and participants are encouraged to work on their own modelling problems.
Exact schedule will be sent close to the meeting, but we expect first two mornings (Monday and Tuesday) to be primarily aimed and new users, and Wednesday and Thursday mornings mainly involving presentations of ‘user success stories’.
Further details about the program will be sent to participants closer to the date of the meeting.
