To Friday 04 August 2017
The Polar high-performance parallel and distributed computing (HPDC) Research Coordination Network invite applications to attend the Polar High-Performance Computing Training Workshop. Workshop courses will convene in the mornings of 1-4 August 2017 at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York.
This workshop is open to polar scientists who would like to increase their computing knowledge and abilities and will include Software Carpentry modules on computing fundamentals, as well high performance computing (HPC) and reproducibility.
Training topics during the workshop include, but are not limited to, the basics of UNIX, version control, introduction to HPDC, selecting a HPDC approach and platform, and publishing and sharing code.
The workshop is free to attend, but participants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.
Space is still available for one or two teams for the hackathon portion of this event that will take place in the afternoons following the workshop.
The hackathon is open to teams of two to four people. Teams must submit a proposal that addresses a science question the team is currently tackling, poses computational challenges that HPDC can address, and for which major progress is possible within the limited time frame.
Workshop application deadline: 30 June 2017
