Arctic Frontiers 2023: Moving North
From Monday 30 January 2023
To Thursday 02 February 2023

Arctic Frontiers 2023 will take place in Tromsø and online from January 30th to February 2nd 2023.

Sea ice, new species, technology hubs and the impacts of climate change are all moving closer to the Arctic, whilst simultaneously people are moving south, providing both challenges and opportunities for sustainable development. The knock-on effects of the war in Europe are vast, including food and fuel security, fertilizer and agriculture limitations, energy demand, and supply chain issues.

The recent release of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment report highlighted the urgency required for adaptation and solutions. The key topics of Arctic Frontiers 2023 will reflect transformation, modelling, adaptation, and development in the rapidly changing global landscape. Furthermore, business development in viable industries and Arctic health will feature, due to their relevance with the concept of Moving North. While looking at both the long-term and short-term impacts of the environmental, humanitarian, and economic crises, looking for potential solutions will be a key driver of the Arctic Frontiers 2023: Moving North conference.

The call-for-abstracts for the seven science sessions is now open until September 16th, 2022. For information on the science sessions and how to submit an abstract, please see: https://www.arcticfrontiers.com/arctic-frontiers-2023-moving-north/science-sessions-for-arctic-frontiers-2023-announced/.

We have seven exciting science sessions for you to submit your abstracts:

  • Session 1: Occupational health and safety in the Arctic
  • Session 2: City transformation by and for citizens using digital technologies and visualisation
  • Session 3: Modelling and monitoring challenges to maritime safety in a changing Arctic
  • Session 4: Plastic pollution, priorities and perspectives in the Arctic
  • Session 5: Impacts and adaptations in response to Atlantification/Borealisation of the Arctic Ocean
  • Session 6: Adaptive management of rapidly changing Arctic ecosystems using interdisciplinary and system-science approaches
  • Session 7: Assembling the valuable and vulnerable North
