How to Manage Your Data Without Becoming a Data Manager
- A Plenary presentation designed to give some helpful tips to researchers on how to start keeping track of all the great new discoveries they make.

Presenter: Scott Tomlinson - Canadian IPY Federal Program Office

Scott is the Data Management Coordinator for the Canadian International Polar Year, Federal Program. In that role he oversees the development of plans and policies to ensure the proper stewardship of IPY data, provide access to these data in the short and long term, and, build capacity in data management in government, academic and community research realms.

Scott holds a degree in Environmental Science and Physical Geography from Trent University. He has spent the last 11 years in the federal public service working in Agriculture Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and most recently with Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.

This video is part of the International Polar Year (IPY) Early Career Research Symposium held in Victoria, BC, Canada from 4-8 December 2009. The event was a career development workshop that brought 100 international young Arctic and Antarctic researchers and mentors together for a series of career development training sessions to develop professional skills, work with senior mentors, and develop international and interdisciplinary collaborations.
