- Postdoctoral Researcher
The Université de Strasbourg (ITES) is recruiting an 18-month post-doctoral researcher for DASEC (Deep listening: fiber-optic seismology in the Antarctic ice sheet), a project funded through a USIAS Fellowship.During the 2027–2028 austral summer, DASEC will deploy distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) fibre in the EPICA ice-core borehole and along a surface array at Concordia Station, Dome C, together with seismic nodes and active seismic sources. The data will address four questions about the ice beneath a dome: how its deep crystal fabric is organised, what the properties of the ice–bedrock interface are, whether passive seismic sources exist in a slowly deforming dome, and how firn properties vary where snow accumulation is very low.The post-doc will plan the deployment, develop the analysis suite, lead the field campaign at Concordia (six to eight weeks, December 2027 – January 2028) as the only DASEC team member on site, and lead the first analysis and publications. They will have first access to the new dataset.
• Start: 1 March 2027, full time, at ITES, Strasbourg, France
• PhD in seismology, geophysics, glaciology or a related field, obtained less than 3 years ago; less than two years of post-doctoral experience
• Field experience with DAS or dense seismic arrays; scientific programming in Python, including large continuous datasets
• Polar fieldwork experience is desirable but not required; French is not required but may be helpful
To apply, send a CV with a list of publications, a cover letter explaining how your experience matches the four stages of the project, a copy of your PhD diploma, and the names and contact details of two to four referees to This email address is being protected from spambots.
