Qualifications

You must have a completed PhD in geophysics, physics, meteorology, physical oceanography, or a related field.

A Norwegian doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from a foreign university is required. Applicants who have not yet defended their PhD may still apply, provided they document that the thesis has been submitted before the application deadline. The PhD must be approved before employment.

In addition, you must have:

  • experience with remote sensing and satellite data
  • experience with analysis of remote sensing data or similar
  • knowledge and understanding of sea ice processes in polar regions
  • experience publishing scientificresearch
  • strong general IT skills, including familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g.Python)

It is an advantage if you have experience with:

  • sea ice-related remote sensing methods using SAR and/or InSAR
  • sea ice modeling
  • work on sea ice in Svalbard and/or the Atlantic sector of the Arctic Ocean and/or the Southern Ocean/coastal Antarctica

Motivation for the position and personal suitability will be given significant weight.

You will collaborate with colleagues at the Norwegian Polar Institute, partners in theSustainMEconsortium, and colleagues from UiT The Arctic University of Norway in the space agency project. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate with strong collaboration skills. Independence and efficiency are also important, as the role requires the ability to solve problems independently, take initiative, identify necessary tasks, and ensure they are completed effectively.

Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Norwegian is the working language, so knowledge of Norwegian is an advantage. If you do not speak Norwegian, you are expected to complete Norwegian language training within the first two years of employment. We cover the cost of completed course.
