The U.S. National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs is seeking a qualified individual to join the Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics (AIL) Section as Program Liaison, U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP) Ombudsperson. The purpose of the position is to serve as the primary resource for all USAP participants to raise issues, recommend solutions, ask questions, and provide feedback directly to the National Science Foundation about USAP operations.

Among other responsibilities, the qualified individual will:

  • Visit all stations and vessels annually to listen to the community, assess situations, and guide individuals toward effective problem resolutions and options.
  • Monitor trends to identify issues requiring broader and corrective actions.
  • Oversee the development of a range of training programs.
  • Participate in developing operating goals and objectives across USAP as a technical expert in the field.
  • Perform data collection, records maintenance and report preparation.
  • Support the implementation of the Sexual Assault and Harassment Prevention and Response (SAHPR) program, in coordination with the U.S. National Science Foundation SAHPR Program Office.
