At the Department of Geography, University of Zurich, we are looking for a scientist to support our team in establishing Glacial Lake Outburst Flood Early Warning Systems in 4 pilot sites within Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. This work is conducted under the Adaptation Fund project GLOFCA - Reducing vulnerabilities of populations in the Central Asia region from glacier lake outburst floods in a changing climate. The two-year position requires a MSc or PhD in a related discipline. The candidate will spend at least 6 months of each year working in Central Asia interacting with local partners and stakeholders. Russian language skills are therefore highly desirable.

This is an exciting opportunity for somebody wanting to work at the interface between research and on-ground disaster risk management, where the focus will be on installation of instruments, testing and calibration of systems, and training activities with local authorities and communities.

Remote employment is possible in the case of a candidate being based in Central Asia or surrounding region.
