University Assistant Professor Position in Glaciology
Cambridge, UK
University of Cambridge
- Faculty/Lecturer
2023-04-25
The Department of Geography, University of Cambridge, is looking to appoint a University Assistant Professor in Glaciology from 1 October 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is formally held by the Department of Geography, but the post-holder will be based in the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) in Cambridge, which is a sub-department of Geography. It is a “tenure-track” position.
Within the field of glaciology, the post is quite broadly defined: we’re looking for someone who will “undertake cutting-edge research in glaciology, and publish in appropriate, leading journals, using field-based studies, remote sensing and/or numerical modelling. Such research will likely focus on contemporary and/or future changes in the cryosphere. Research should also have a primary focus on high latitudes.”
As well as research, the post-holder would also be expected to provide at least 30 hours of lectures, practicals and/or seminars annually at undergraduate and post-graduate levels (and associated assessment, marking and course administration), and to supervise undergraduate dissertations, students on the Masters course (M.Phil.) in Polar Studies offered at SPRI, and PhD students. The post-holder would also have the opportunity to become a Fellow at one of the Cambridge Colleges. As with all potentially permanent academic posts, there would also be some administrative responsibility within the Department and SPRI.
Full details are available here: https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/40117/, with a deadline of 25 April 2023.
