- Postdoctoral Researcher
The Ice Core Gas Laboratory at the British Antarctic Survey is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join our team and play a key role in the analysis of ancient air trapped in polar ice. Using their analytical skills, the ideal candidate will further develop a continuous flow gas extraction system, currently capable of measuring methane and carbon monoxide, to include online measurements of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. The successful candidate will develop gas extraction methods and integrate two new laser spectrometers into the continuous flow analysis system.
This role is integral to a NERC funded project (PI: Dr. Rachael Rhodes (University of Cambridge), co-I: Dr Thomas Bauska (British Antarctic Survey) that pushes the boundaries of continuous flow ice core gas measurements to include soluble gases: carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Working within the Ice Core Gas Lab at BAS and interacting with the wider ice core science research community across Cambridge, the successful candidate will tackle a difficult and highly relevant analytical challenge.
Informal enquiries about the role are very welcome and should be directed to Rachael Rhodes (This email address is being protected from spambots.
