Evolution of Early Career Polar Researcher Support and Development Opportunities throughout IPY
Poster Presentation
IPY From Knowledge to Action Conference 2012
Montréal, Canada
22-27 April 2012
Throughout the International Polar Year, great strides have been made to improve upon career development opportunities for Early Career Polar Researchers (ECPRs) and better prepare them for a
future in research that values education and outreach. This has included career-development workshops, panel discussions at many small and large polar conferences, mentoring opportunities and increased financial support to ensure the participation of ECPRs and important polar conferences. The IPY Oslo Conference was the largest polar conference to date and saw oral and poster presentations from over 750 ECPRs, many of whom would not have been able to attend if it were not for the IPY-OSC Oslo Stipend which covered accommodation, local travel and discounted registration for 400 ECPRs, in addition to generous travel support from various polar organizations.
