Aquatic Toxicology publishes original scientific papers dealing with the mechanisms of toxicity and the responses to toxic agents in aquatic environments at the community, species, tissue, cellular, subcellular and molecular levels, including aspects of uptake, metabolism and excretion of toxicants. The aim of the journal is to increase our understanding of the impact of toxicants on aquatic organisms and ecosystems. Studies with aquatic model systems that provide fundamental mechanistic insight to toxic effects on organisms in general are also welcome. Both laboratory and field studies will be considered. The mechanistic focus includes genetic disturbances and adaptations to environmental perturbations, including the evolution of toxicant responses; biochemical, physiological and behavioural responses of organisms to toxicants; interactions of genetic and functional responses, and interactions between natural and toxicant-induced environmental changes. The bioaccumulation of contaminants is considered when studies address mechanisms influencing accumulation. Ecological investigations that address reasons, possibly also considering their genetic and physiological aspects, for toxicant-induced alterations of aquatic communities or populations are suitable. Reports on technique development or monitoring efforts are generally not within the scope of Aquatic Toxicology, except those concerning new methodologies for mechanistic research with an example of their application. Identification of toxicants or toxicologically relevant molecules in organisms will be considered only if the identification is a part of a more comprehensive mechanistic study. Whenever possible, information of exposure should be based on measured concentrations and not nominal or assumed ones. Manuscripts reporting acute toxicity data (lethal concentration, LC-50 or lethal dose, LD-50) as a major finding are usually not considered.

The Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology is a peer-reviewed journal providing a meeting ground for research workers who daily encounter problems related to the contamination of our environment and who welcome opportunities to share in new discoveries as soon as they are made. The editors welcome manuscripts on analytical methods. It is imperative that any new technique be compared with the older technique. Manuscripts on methods that are simply repeats of older methods with a different substrate will be considered based on merit. However, manuscripts presenting methods for compounds for which analytical methods have been standardized and for which copious data are available will not be considered for publication. New methods, procedures or techniques must be sufficiently detailed to permit their use in other laboratories. Analytical methods studies are rejected at a high rate because most of those submitted do not significantly improve an analytical method. Environmental distribution studies require strict adherence to QA/QC procedures. The latest measurement techniques are expected. The limit of detection must be stated for each analyte. A recovery study for each analyte as appropriate must be conducted.

Chemosphere, as a multidisciplinary journal, offers maximum dissemination of investigations related to all aspects of environmental science. Chemosphere will include the following subject fields.
Persistent Organic Pollutants and Dioxins - This section is devoted to all scientific aspects of persistent organic pollutants, including monitoring studies in the environment, ecosystem, and people; environmental chemistry; toxicology; epidemiologic investigations; risk assessment; and processes that generate these pollutants and measures to reduce their emissions or concentrations in the environment. Organic pollutants targeted in this section can be of natural or synthetic origin but must be persistent in the environment or in organisms. Although the term "persistent" is somewhat subjective, with such definition, halogenated organic chemicals are of primary interest. Only studies that are of significance to an international audience and include a statistically representative population, sites of particular global interest, or lend themselves to interpretation at the global level should be submitted.
Environmental Chemistry - This section will publish manuscripts dealing with fundamental processes in the environment that are related to dispersion, degradation and alteration of inorganic and organic contaminants of environmental concern focussed on the dynamics of contaminants in environmental compartments such as water, soil/sediment, and air and their interactions with biosphere.
Environmental Toxicology and Risk Assessment - The Section on Environmental Toxicology and Risk Assessment covers all aspects of toxicology, i.e., the science of adverse effects of chemicals on living organisms, and the scientific assessment of the risk that such adverse effects may occur.
Not considered are, e.g., studies which report only concentrations of chemicals in the environment, living organisms, food, other materials etc., or on techniques of remediation of environmental pollution, or on biochemical effects of chemicals non-relevant to toxicology.

The scope of Journal of Environmental Monitoring covers an extensive set of subject areas; theoretical, fundamental and applied papers are welcome on the areas detailed below.
Source, Transport and Fate - This section considers the identification of and mechanisms for source, movement and distribution of environmentally important compounds and contaminants in environmental matrices. Biological and non-biological particles, gases, vapours, elemental and compound chemicals are present in the environment to differing extents. Their extent and relevance to human and natural environments should be the focus of papers dealing with these issues. Emerging contaminants, their sources and the processes distributing these compounds into the environment should also be scrutinised. A few of the relevant questions that should be answered in papers are: do any of these compounds occur together? What are the rates of decomposition or transformation of compounds? How stable are these compounds? Can the contribution of each contaminant be apportioned to particular sources? Has the contaminant caused damage at the affected site (cause-effect relationship)? As contaminants degrade at different rates, the chemical signature will change over time, what is the effect of this 'aging' and how does this allow better understanding? What is the ultimate fate of environmental contaminants? Where are they most stable and why? What is the potential for further transportation? How do compounds partition into environmental media and can this process be modified? Ultimately, answering these questions will have implications for exposure and consequently measures that need to be taken to minimise exposure through source identification and apportionment.
Exposure and Impacts - Given that the environment has natural, rural and urban components including homes and workplaces, what is the toxicological significance of emerging contaminants and other compounds in the environment? How is that going to be determined? What is the correlation between the presence of compounds in environmental matrices or habitats and their presence in organisms? What is the cumulative potential of contaminants? Do contaminants affect reproductive capacity? It is also important to characterise the modes of action of contaminants. What is the toxicological effect of persistent low level/high level exposure? Of special interest low level medium and long term exposure to such compounds.
Policy and Legislation - Policy and legislation can and should be driven by good science. It is therefore desirable to consider what the policy or legislative implications of your research might be. These should be included and linked to existing legislation, if possible.
Novel Analytical Tools and Measurement Technologies - A broad range of analytical tools and measurement technologies are needed to facilitate understanding of the above areas. Novel analytical technologies as applied to environmental issues are of particular interest. Papers with significant components of analytical data or measurements should provide the environmental relevance of such data, their implications and what they can predict. These topics include recent developments in sampling technologies, neural networks, smart sensor technologies and signal capture and enhancement technologies. Others are multiplexed sensing, miniaturization technologies, intelligent packaging for continuous monitoring, novel materials with environmental applications and remediation processes.
Sustainable Solutions and Technologies (Resource management) - Journal of Environmental Monitoring offers a unique opportunity for authors to cross the boundary into issues associated with green and sustainable science. Most papers address issues concerned with the role of contaminants in pollution, health and exposure; we encourage authors to go that step further and suggest how the effects of these contaminants can be negated or reduced by addressing alternative more sustainable or greener strategies at the sources of these contaminants by developing an alternative technology base that is inherently non-toxic to living things and the environment.

The Marine Pollution Bulletin is concerned with the rational use of maritime and marine resources in estuaries, the seas and oceans, as well as with documenting marine pollution and introducing new forms of measurement and analysis. A wide range of topics are discussed as news, comment, reviews and research reports, not only on effluent disposal and pollution control, but also on the management, economic aspects and protection of the marine environment in general. A distinctive feature of Marine Pollution Bulletin is the number of different categories of articles which are published.
