Arctic Cliffhangers - Seabirds as Insiders on Climate Change
- General public
Seabirds are key indicators of environmental change in the Arctic. Changes in ice cover, ocean temperatures and salinity are all reflected in a seabird's diet and distribution. Arctic Cliffhangers: Changing Times for Canada's Seabirds is a documentary film, which will highlight the research and discoveries of IPY scientists who are studying the impact of climate change on birds in the Eastern Arctic. In the film, Inuit hunters and Newfoundland fisherman/seabird harvesters will add further insight into the historical human impact on seabirds. Educational resource packages are also being prepared. These materials will target northern audiences and children. The documentary film will be completed in summer 2009, while other materials will become available later in 2009.
