Polar Outreach Catalogue

Dutch polar researchers submitted over 500 science stories with photo?s and video to an outreach initiative of the national science agency NWO and television broadcasting association VPRO. Several major polar exhibitions, films, books and events in 2007 and 20008 were organized to serve the public understanding of the relevance of the Dutch polar research projects. PET (Polar Educational Toolkit) started in 2006 as a EOC project to coordinate, preserve and modify Dutch IPY science communication materials for long-lasting educational use. The PET project develops a practical method to analyze and format information generated during the IPY. As result 8 educational web portals have been established that facilitate teachers in using real and recent science stories in the classroom or as an e-learning source. The weblog site is moderated and will be supported until 2012.
