Polar curriculum in Belgian classrooms
  • Educators, Teachers
Teachers team at the Athne Royal de Pepinster presents this project developed in the school during the IPY to not only bring a taste of science to young children and students, but to enjoy the media and the public's enthusiasm for the polar science in honor in Belgium since for 4 years now. Our school, with scientist class 4, participated in a contest "Pole Position" (2006) organized by the Department of Political Science which was to imagine the new Belgian polar base in Antarctica: the Princess Elisabeth station now operational. But we wanted to extend the polar curriculum to classes byond the high levels. The program is now being extended to the lower level and even better, already educate students in elementary school which may join our school for further study. A new program was created that will take effect from the next academic year (September 2010): 1) Introduction to science workshops for students from 5 primary (elementary school) at the request of their school, 2) Creation of two parallel options for students entering school (1 and 2 years).
