Natural History Special Events Series
- General public
In the summer of 2008 and 2009, the Friends of Dempster Country Society in the Yukon will host four Natural History Special Event Weekends at the Tombstone Territorial Park. The Event Series brings together researchers and the local people and focuses on a different aspect of the area's natural history, environmental concerns and IPY research. For example, in 2008 over 500 people participated in special event weekend on birds, botany, mammals, and geology. Participants learned to recognize birds through sight and sound, classify Arctic, subarctic, boreal and Beringian flora, identify local animals and interpret how rocks were formed. In 2009, two new events will be added, one on insects and another on lichens and fungi.
