Cold Reality: Putting Energy Resources, Sustainability and the Environment into Physics
- Students - in general
This elective course fills the gap between the physical sciences and their applications to real world issues. The course begins with energy basics, thermodynamics, and electricity. It delves into population growth and energy demand for electricity and for transportation. Students then learn about current energy resources, both renewable and non-renewable. Afterwards, the students learn about nuclear science and its various applications. The course examines pros and cons of all energy resources as well as sustainability. Rapid changes in the Polar Regions are like the canary in the mineshaft. Students must learn what this means for the world they are about to inherit. It is hoped that, after exposure to this course, students will make more informed decisions about our world's energy future and sustainability.
