APECS, Our Spaces - Foundation for the Good Governance of International Spaces, the UK Polar NetworkPolar Educators International (PEI)PolarTREC, the International Polar Foundation, the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR)Gateway Antarctica, the International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO),  the British Antarctic Survey and the Sultan Mizan Antarctic Research Foundation are celebrating Antarctica Day 2017 on December 1st, 2017.

Antarctica Day 2017 Photo Contest

Antarctica Day is coming up this December 1st! This date marks the 58th anniversary of the day the Antarctic Treaty was opened for signature, establishing Antarctica as a place of peace and international scientific exploration. To celebrate Antarctica Day 2017, we are organising a photo competition, Antarctica Alive!. We encourage you to submit your best Antarctic photos for the two following categories:

  1. Antarctic teamwork in the field
  2. Antarctic fauna

Please read the rules and regulations for the contest before submitting your photo. Submissions are due 24 November 2017 at 18 GMT and should be send to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

After this deadline, it's time to vote! Voting will be open from 25 - 30 November 2017 and instructions on how to vote will be distributed when the voting opens. The Winners will be announced on Antarctica Day, 1 December 2017.
