During this Polar Week we were specifically highlighting how we are living in a #PolarWorld, where issues happening in the poles affect everyone on the globe. Further activities were the following:

FrostBytes Competition
APECS was holding a #PolarWorld FrostByte competition, with winners announced during International Polar Week, from 18 - 24 September 2017! FrostBytes are short audio or video recordings used as a tool to help researchers easily share their latest findings with a broad audience. This year’s fall celebrations of the #PolarWorld and wider cryosphere will highlight what happens in the poles affects the entire world as well as science, people living and working there, and international collaboration.
All videos that meet qualifying criteria were judged by an internal committee according to a score form and shared across APECS’ social media leading up to POLAR2018.

Polar Week Blog
For the Polar Week in September 2017 we specifically highlighted how we are living in a #PolarWorld, where issues happening in the poles affect everyone on the globe. To help promote #PolarWorld, and polar research in general, wel released a series of blog posts during Polar Week. We discussed some of the key issues happening in the poles that are affecting the globe, talking about international collaborations and conducting research internationally, and help raise awareness about some of the international activities APECS is a part of. Polar Film Festival 2017
In conjunction with Polar Week 2017, USAPECS organised the second annual Polar Film Fest 2017 from 18 - 22 September 2017. This year's theme is #PolarWorld, so we were looking to showcase the best the planet has to offer in movies about the Arctic, Antarctic, and wider cryosphere - no matter what language they're in.
Organizers from US APECS put together a schedule with virtual and in-person watch parties.

Polar Week Reddit AMA
To promote Polar Week APECS hosted an Ask Me Anything on the Reddit forum /r/Science on September 23 from 11 am-2pm Eastern Standard Time (15:00 - 19:00 GMT). We had a panel of APECS members answering questions about how we are all living in a #PolarWorld, why you should care about that, and the challenges of working in harsh environments.

You just have to remember they are not your typical science audience. Julia Dooley, President of Polar Educators International and Primary level teacher of Gifted and Talented students shared a few teacher tools, and ideas for making your classroom visits engaging, and actually a little fun.
