Applications are open for several exciting voluntary positions within our ECS team!

Are you passionate about cryosphere science? Want to build community, improve your science communication skills, or take part in shaping EGU activities for ECS? Then one of these roles might be for you! We are currently recruiting for the following positions:

ECS Representative (April/May 2025 start)
Outreach Officer
Social Media Coordinator
Cryosphere Blog Contributor or Editor

1. ECS Representative
The ECS representative is the link between the ECS in the EGU Cryosphere Division and the EGU community. An ECS is defined as a member who is within 7 years1 of their highest degree qualification. The ECS representative makes sure that the wishes and needs of the ECS in the cryosphere division are being heard and conveyed to the decision makers of EGU. Therefore, you will be (1) regularly in touch and involved with the EGU Cryosphere Division and its ECS and (2) regularly meeting with ECS Representatives from other EGU divisions.

What you’ll do:
1) As part of the EGU ECS representatives team: You will join the other 21 ECS representatives (one from each division) to represent 56% of the EGU members. As part of your role, you will meet regularly (online) and twice yearly (in person) with the other ECS representatives to discuss the ways in which EGU can better support the science and careers of ECS. During these meetings, information is either directed to the council (e.g writing a proposal to request a change in policy), or comes from the council (e.g to receive information about new plans). You can also join a ECS working group, such as: EDI, careers and jobs, work-life balance, connectivity within EGU and many others.

2) You will be part of the ECS-Cryosphere team, including the division (and vice) president, chief editors of the blog, social media managers and outreach officers. As part of this team: you will be responsible for organising the networking and social events, coordinating the workshops and short courses initiated by the ECS-cryo team taking
place at the annual EGU general assembly, and discussing division issues and information with the division president. Additionally, you can participate in writing or editing blog posts. On average, the workload is around 1-2 hours per week, although it is not spread evenly over the year, as more is required in the run up to the General Assembly (in
Vienna).

Why should I apply:
This is an excellent opportunity to help shape the future of research and networking for ECS whilst developing your skills in leadership and communication.

Requirements:
The ECS representative must qualify as an ECS, which means anyone who is an undergraduate or postgraduate student, or a researcher who is within 7 years1 of their highest degree. A passion for inclusive science, teamwork and communication are vital, whilst a knowledge of the EGU structure and previous experience working within an ECS
group are desirable. You will start shadowing the current ECS rep from April 2025, before officially starting your position after the general assembly in May 20252. Ideally, your role would last two years.

How to apply:
If you are interested in the position, please send your CV (1 page max) and a short statement (half a page) outlining why you are interested in the position and what you could bring to the team. Note: your CV does not need to be polished or perfect—we just want to know more about your background and suitability! For more information and to
