We are thrilled to announce that the Cryosphere Pavilion side event application process for UNOC3 in Nice, France (May 28 – June 14, 2025) is now open! Link to apply is at the end of this text.
The Cryosphere Pavilion, funded by the Fondation Albédo pour la Cryosphère, is on a vital mission to bring the cryosphere’s message to the world. Through this initiative, we seek to highlight the people dedicated to the study, exploration, and preservation of the cryosphere, while inspiring the next generation and engaging decision-makers in its urgent preservation. The Cryosphere Pavilion aims to celebrate the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025 and the upcoming Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences 2025-2034.
A Journey of Science, Discovery, and Action
The Cryosphere Pavilion will serve as a dynamic hub for scientific exploration, storytelling, and action. Visitors will experience the breathtaking beauty of frozen landscapes, gain insight into the pressing threats they face, and discover the pioneering work of researchers, explorers, and advocates striving to protect them.
The Pavilion: An Immersive Experience
The 400m2 Cryosphere Pavilion will be located within the Green Zone space of “La Baleine” at the Palais des Expositions de Nice. The Pavilion can host an audience up to 80 participants per session. The Green Zone does not require accreditation for the UN Conference and is accessible to the general public.
Speaking at the Cryosphere Pavilion will be a unique opportunity. Unlike the Blue Zone, which has strict access procedures and does not allow open discussions, the Pavilion will be an accessible and welcoming space, bringing together a diverse audience throughout UNOC3.
Call for Side Events & Contributions
We invite scientists, youth, indigenous representatives, artists, explorers, story tellers, NGOs, policy makers and global changemakers to propose 45-minute side events (including Q&A) that contribute to a diverse and inspiring program. Collaborative and creative sessions are strongly encouraged! Remote participation will not be possible. The events should primarily target the general public and the youth. Language must be accessible (no scientific jargon or acronyms), visuals should be easy to read and interpret.
Additionally, we are seeking 2-3 min long subtitled movies of the highest quality to display on the three large TV screens within the pavilion, helping create a fully immersive visual experience.
Key Details:
No participation fees – The Cryosphere Pavilion provides space at no charge.
Independent funding – Organizers and participants must arrange their own travel, accommodation, and logistical support.
Application Deadline for side events: March 31, 2025.
