Association of Polar Early Career Scientists

 

Yamal Nenets Center of Arctic Research (Salekhard, Russia) invites candidates who would like to take part in the field works in West Siberia in June 2021 and September 2021.

The goal is to set up the temperature monitoring in the boreholes and measure active layer thickness in September, 2021. There are multiple sites nearby to Salekhard and Novy Urengoy.

For June 2021 we need 2-4 people for the minimum term of 2 weeks (either Salkhard or Novy Urengoy) and maximum of 1 month (both sites) to work as assistant driller, studying permafrost structure, sampling the permafrost down to depths of 15 m.

For September we need 2-4 people for the minimum term of 1 week (one of the sites) and maximum of 2 weeks (both sites) to install several Circumpolar Active Layer monitoring plots, measure the active layer, describe landscapes.

We offer:

- paid travel, reimbursement of travel and living expenses;

We welcome:

- students/ PhDs/post-docs or young researchers, representatives of teacher's or art and science communities interested in gaining knowledge and competences on permafrost

- self-organized, conscientious individuals respecting safety at work, ready to live outdoors (tent) in severe Arctic conditions (cold, rain, mosquitos), to work in a small team (3-5 persons), to participate in load handling operatios.
