« Frozen-Ground Cartoons » is a scientific outreach project presenting international permafrost research – with a special emphasis on field work – via multi-language comic-strip booklets. The project started in 2016 and is currently evolving through a series of augmented reality materials (e.g., 3D maps and drawings, videos) and a trivia board game, collectively referred to as « Permafrost on all channels ». The target audience is the general public, focusing more specifically on school kids and teenagers.
We want to develop new material in engaging formats, thus through any artistic medium (e.g., graphics, novels, photos, movies, theatre, AR/VR). We want to reach out to more people, from any background. Keeping scientific accuracy, we want a little more emotion, a little more curiosity, a little more surprise. We are ready to explore the unexpected, ‘permafrostly’ speaking…
We want You – yes, You.
We are looking forward to working with artists from different disciplines to build new permafrost stories, characters and superheroes. The artists will be working closely with a group of scientists and story-tellers.
Send us your pitch for the project before May 31st.
The selection committee (composed of scientists, producers, and artists) will announce their decision in early September. Selected artist(s) will work with involved scientists to produce a draft of the arts product(s) before December.
