On 26 September 2019, APECS hosted the first online conference in Spanish, the APECS Iberoamericana. This event was a joint effort from the National Committees from Spanish-speaking countries: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Spain and Uruguay. The aim for this event was to offer a space for Hispanic polar early career researchers and educators to share their work in their native language, and create resources for education of the Polar Regions in Spanish.
The APECS Iberoamericana was a success! The online conference extended for over 8 hours, with 30 speakers from 9 different countries sharing excellent presentations on their polar research.
We are pleased to announce the APECS Iberoamericana online conference winners for best presentations:
1st prize to Natalia Doloisio, from UVSQ/CEARC (France): ‘Derretimiento del permafrost en la costa del Ártico Ruso: dimensiones materiales y culturales’.
2nd prize was for Francisco Tunez (Universidad del Salvador, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina): ‘Geopolitica Antartica en el Siglo XXI’.
3rd prize to Juan Diego Gaitan (Universidad de Hong Kong, Hong Kong): "Regulación adaptativa de respuestas fenotipicas y moleculares en invertebrados marinos Antárticos frente al calentamiento y acidificación del océano"
Also, thanks to generous donations from INACH, INTERACT and COMNAP, prizes were awarded for best presentations for education and outreach value:

2nd Marcos Tassano y Mirel Cabrera (Universidad de la Republica, Uruguay):
