The Polar Data Forum would like to invite you to join o nline on June 30th from 14:00 - 17:00 UTC to con tinue our efforts to enhance polar data sharing and interoperability. This will be the first of a planned bi-monthly series of online workshops conven ed by the ADC, SCADM, SOOS, the Arctic Observing Summit Working Group 4, th e Global Cryosphere Watch, and the World Data System on behalf of the polar data community. See here for more information about the workshop, and register here.
1. Meeting kickof f (plenary) (30 minutes): Overview of recent developments an d objectives for the meeting.
Note: Due to mutual intere
sts, Working Groups 1 & 2 will start the meeting together to discuss co
mmon interests (e.g. schema.org metada
ta vocabularies). If desired, groups will separate.
Workin
g Sessions (2.5 hours)
2. Breakout Working Group 1
: Federated Search. Hosted by POLDER (https://polder.info/)
• Share developments i
n the area of metadata aggregation with particular focus on
schema.org
• Discussion of lin
king schema.org to other metadata standards
and services (e.g. ISO 19115/ OGC CSW)
• Identify key shared m
etadata vocabularies in use
3. Breakout Working Gr
oup 2: Vocabularies and Semantics. Hosted by the ADC-IA
RPC-SCADM Vocabularies and Semantics Working Group (https://arcticdc.org/activities/core-projects/vocabularies-and
-semantics-wg)
• Determine how to work on the Best Practices part of
science on schema.org
• Work on Time,
space, and other sections of science On Schema
.org not addressed at PDF III
• Understanding the process fo
r contributing to community ontologies (e.g. ENVO)
4.&nb
sp; Breakout Working Group 3: Policy. Hosted by SCADM,
SOOS and the Arctic Data Committee (Stein Tronstad lead): At the thi
rd Polar Data Forum a process was initiated to update and align the data po
licies of IASC, SCAR, SOOS and potentially other polar science groups. We a
im to move this process forward by forming a bipolar group to work on objec
tives andcore principles of an updated, «bipolar» data policy document. Dur
ing this initial webinar we will also be looking at the rationales and key
principles of some important international data policies.
This
discussion will also engage representatives from the global data community
to ensure broad interoperability.
