To discuss and synthesize the current state of knowledge a
nd open questions regarding the general theme of firn on land ice.
To enhance collaboration between
data-focused (observational) and modeling-focused communities, and entrain
expertise from neighboring disciplines such as seasonal snow and ice sheet
dynamics, which are essential steps in addressing the next big challenges i
n understanding firn.
The workshop will be organized th
roughout May-June 2022, and consists of three phases:
Sharing phase (30 May- 10 June): presenters wil
l share their work online (via pre recorded lightning presentations). Every
one gets a chance to explore the shared work on a cloud based video platfor
m, which will be organized into themes that are defined by the participants
. Slack will be used to communicate within the community.

h theme will organize an online discussion focused on the shared work. Each
topical discussion will be organized and led by two coordinators, one earl
y career representative and one senior scientist.
Joint session phase (21-23 June): overview talks by them
es and outlook/summary talks, spread over two sessions:
Session 1: 21 June, 13:00-15:00 UTC
Session 2: 23 June, 19:00-21

Participants unable to attend live sessions will have imm
ediate access to recordings of the sessions.
The
synthesis phase (June-September) will feature the writing of the workshop
outcomes in a review paper by the coordinating team.
In addition, we will provide, at no cost to participants, optional pre
sentation coaching provided by
Melissa
Marshall. The kickoff workshop for those coaching sessions will be liv
e on 3 May, 14:00-15:00 UTC, and will be recorded. Individualized coaching
will occur in the second week of May. More information will be provided aft
