The Chilean Cryosphere Society (SO CHICRI) invites researchers, professionals and students from Chile and abro ad to participate in the annual meeting for 2020. This will be held in Conc epción from 13 – 15 May 2020 and will be organised by the Departments of Ge ography and Geophysics, University of Concepción.
Unfortunately, due to the recent developments in the COVID pandemic in Latin America and espec ially in Chile, the 2020 local committee in consultation with the National committee has decided to postpone the 3rd Annual Chilean Cr yosphere Society Meeting (SOCHICRI) to March 2021. The specific dates will be communicated soon. Considering the uncertainty regarding the spread of t he virus, a new date in March of the following year will allow us to develo p a hybrid meeting, with in-person and interactive online attendance. The i n-person version of the meeting will still be held in the Vicerrectoría de Investigación, Universidad de Concepción (https://goo.gl/maps/QJfwf3dRQj8LEKm96). We are now con tacting the authors who have already submitted abstracts and paid the fees in order to allow them to withdraw and arrange refunds, if they require to. Nevertheless, the submission platform will be activated this week, remaini ng open for more submissions until November 30th, 2020 in order to allow interested researchers who would like to participate in the next y ear event.
So, the SOCHICRI team would like to reiterate the previous invitation to all researchers, professionals and students from Chile and a broad to participate in the annual meeting, organized by the Geography and Geophysics Departments of Concepcion University in Chile.
We invite y ou to send your abstract through the following online form: https://forms.gle/9NLTW4kJGnDt5KM56. Your contribution can focus on any part of the cryosphere subjects, and can include field- or theory-based studies, remote sensing, simulations, legal frameworks, impact and/or risk analyses, water resource assessments and ot hers. Please follow the instructions on the online form to register for the conference and to mention your preferred presentation format (oral or post er). The closing date for abstracts is November 30, 2020.
This next m eeting we will offer workshops during the afternoon of the last day of the meeting. We invite all those interested in leading a workshop focused on me thods or themes related to the cryosphere to send us your general idea as s oon as possible to (This email address is being protected from spambots. In addition, we will hold a round-table conversation entitled Cryo-science, cryo-activism and social transformation, where researchers, NGO representatives and other interested parties will meet to discuss and design new research strategies to more closely connect cryosphere science with societal needs. Those inte rested in taking part of it can also register in the online form.
The registration period will remain open, with the early bird period ending on January 31st 2021, with rates of $22.000 Chilean pesos (students) and $32. 000 Chilean pesos (professionals). After that date, the rates will increase to $32.000 Chilean pesos (students) and $42.000 Chilean pesos (professiona ls). Fees for people who would only participate in the online version will be discussed and decided once we have a better picture of the preferences o f potential attendees. An additional question about this topic has been add ed within the online form.
