SUMMARY:26th International Symposium on Polar Sciences (ISPS) - cancelled
LOCATION:Incheon\, Republic of Korea
DESCRIPTION:The symposium is canceled as a proactive measure against the novel coronavi
rus (COVID-19) situation in Korea.\nThis symposium aims to bring polar scie
ntists together to discuss their research findings and to promote internati
onal collaborative research. The organisers cordially invite you to share y
our knowledge and perspectives on future outlook in polar research.\nThe ti
tle of the Symposium is 'Finding solutions to global issues: Polar science
and technology'. Humanity is undergoing dramatic global climate changes and
facing global issues such as extreme weather, rising sea levels, food and
water shortage. ‘IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Chang
ing Climate’ has also expressed concern about rapid sea level rise and the
possibility of increasing frequency of extreme sea level events in the near
future. The polar region is the place that holds the oldest climate record
s and shows the environmental changes earlier and clearer than any other pl
ace on earth. During the symposium, we will highlight the findings in polar
science and technology to understand the changes we are currently experien
cing in the global perspective and to find the solutions to those global is
sues.\nThe following six themes for sessions are proposed:\n\n - Polar clim
ate and its global perspective;\n - Earth’s cryosphere and sea level change
;\n - Advances in understanding the sea ice variability and changes in pola
r oceans;\n - Research for living organism adapted to the polar environment
;\n - Innovative technologies in polar sciences;\n - Integrated approaches
to climate change: IPCC SR1.5 and SROCC.Abstract submission is open until 7
February 2020.  Registration opens on 7 February until 24 April 2020.\nFor
full details, including the Circulars, please visit the 26th ISPS website
