SUMMARY:26th International Symposium on Polar Sciences (ISPS) - cancelled
LOCATION:Incheon\, Republic of Korea
DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>The symposium is canceled as a proactive measure against the nov
el coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in Korea.</strong></p><p>This symposium
aims to bring polar scientists together to discuss their research findings
and to promote international collaborative research. The organisers cordia
lly invite you to share your knowledge and perspectives on future outlook i
n polar research.</p><p>The title of the Symposium is '<em>Finding solution
s to global issues: Polar science and technology</em>'. Humanity is undergo
ing dramatic global climate changes and facing global issues such as extrem
e weather, rising sea levels, food and water shortage. ‘IPCC Special Report
on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate’ has also expressed conc
ern about rapid sea level rise and the possibility of increasing frequency
of extreme sea level events in the near future. The polar region is the pla
ce that holds the oldest climate records and shows the environmental change
s earlier and clearer than any other place on earth. During the symposium,
we will highlight the findings in polar science and technology to understan
d the changes we are currently experiencing in the global perspective and t
o find the solutions to those global issues.</p><p>The following six themes
for sessions are proposed:</p><ul><li>Polar climate and its global perspec
tive;</li><li>Earth’s cryosphere and sea level change;</li><li>Advances in
understanding the sea ice variability and changes in polar oceans;</li><li>
Research for living organism adapted to the polar environment;</li><li>Inno
vative technologies in polar sciences;</li><li>Integrated approaches to cli
mate change: IPCC SR1.5 and SROCC.</li></ul><p>Abstract submission is open
 until&nbsp;<strong>7 February 2020</strong>.&nbsp; Registration opens on 7
February until&nbsp;<strong>24 April 2020</strong>.</p><p>For full details,
