SUMMARY:Graduate course: Design of roads and railways in cold climate
DESCRIPTION:A new international and multidisciplinary intensive course on Design of Roa
 ds and Railways in Cold Climate will be held at NTNU this fall! This advanc
 ed course will provide participants an innovative training on frost action 
 with a special focus on the conditions in Norway and Canada.\n \nThis cours
 e is part of the FROZEN CANOES project that aims to contribute to high qual
 ity research-based education by combining geoscience and engineering knowle
 dge from Canada and Norway. FROZEN CANOES is funded by the INTPART program 
 of the Norwegian Research Council and the Centre for Internationalization o
 f University Studies in Norway.\n \nMaster and PhD students in Engineering 
 and Earth Sciences as well as professionals are welcome to take the course.
  In total, there are 20 places available for students coming from Canada an
 d Norway and 10 places for professionals! Selected students will get a scho
 larship to help cover their travel and accommodation expenses.\nPlease note
  that prior to the residential course at the Norwegian University of Scienc
 e and Technology (NTNU), two online learning modules are mandatory as cours
 e preparation. These online modules will focus on heat transfer and freezin
 g-thawing soil mechanics and need to be achieved during the month of Septem
 ber 2019.\n \nRegistrations for students and professionals are extended unt
 il August 9 and the announcement of the selected students will be given the
