SUMMARY:Community Earth System Model (CESM) Polar Modeling Workshop for Early Career Scientists
LOCATION:Boulder\, Colorado\, USA
DESCRIPTION:Organizers invite applications for a Community Earth System Model (CESM) Po
lar Modeling Workshop for early career scientists. \nThe workshop is suppor
ted by the National Science Foundation and will include around 20 early car
eer polar scientists. Early career scientists include graduate students, po
stdoctoral researchers, and those within seven years of receiving a PhD.\nW
orkshop participants will gain hands-on experience planning, designing, exe
cuting, and analyzing earth system modeling experiments to understand chang
ing polar climates and explore better methods to integrate models and obser
vations. Participants will engage in advanced activities focused specifical
ly on capacity building for using CESM in polar research (e.g., sea ice, la
nd ice, atmosphere, ocean, land, paleoclimate).\nThe workshop will follow d
irectly from the Annual CESM Tutorial, held 5-9 August 2019. Prospective pa
rticipants who have not attended the CESM Tutorial should apply for both th
e CESM Tutorial and the CESM Polar Modeling Workshop. Prospective participa
nts who have previously attended the CESM Tutorial (or have equivalent expe
rience) should apply for just the CESM Polar Modeling Workshop.\n
