SUMMARY:StAY POLAR - How to communicate science
LOCATION:University of Aveiro\, Portugal
DESCRIPTION:APECS Portugal workshops cover topics targeting early career researchers, p
roviding free opportunities for professional career development. This year,
the IX Workshop APECS Portugal will focus on Science Communication. From s
cientific conferences, to talks in schools, social media and communicating
with policy makers, learning how to communicate well is increasingly releva
nt to the career development of young researchers. A diverse public require
s the researcher to adapt the language to share scientific knowledge in a c
lear way for every audience. During the workshop, we will have national and
international speakers from different institutions sharing their experienc
e communicating with different audiences, including communication of large
European scientific projects, communication of scientific journals, and com
munication with Indigenous communities. Following the talks, we will have a
hands-on activity under the same topic, which will stimulate the active pa
rticipation of early career researchers. The workshop will conclude with a
debate on science communication featuring all the invited speakers, and ope
n for public participation. Additionally, the attendants will have opportun
ities to interact and network with the speakers, as well as other participa
nts and APECS mentors during coffee and lunch breaks.\nSince the APECS Port
ugal workshops take place as part of the Portuguese Conference on Polar Sci
ences, and along with the science communication topic, this year we will of
fer prices for best student oral and poster presentation. This will further
contribute to engage the development of early career researchers in scienc
 e communication.\n\n
